Weight Training Tips And Benefits

There is a lot of information on the subject of weight training. There is no doubt that there are many benefits to performing regular weight training exercises however one also has to be careful as doing things the wrong can be hazardous to your health. Our belief is in natural weight training and body building methods where the emphasis is on building strong, healthy muscles and to improve the overall quality of your health and life.

Why you should train with weights?

There are some major benefits associated with strength training and they include the building of muscle which is critical in order to maintain your strength levels and to slow down the aging process. Many studies have been done that prove that people that weight train regularly look younger and age more slowly than those that do not.

Do not overdo it:

There are tons of different and even conflicting ideas being taught on weight training. Unfortunately many people that have developed the habit to lift weights tend to do it too much. Weight training puts a lot of stress on your body and if you lift very heavy weights you will need to take appropriate amounts of time off between workouts otherwise your progress will be hindered and it can even be bad for your health to train too much.

It you find that the amount of weight you are lifting is not growing each time then you may need to take more time off in order to let your muscles recover. Sometimes less is more with weight training so do not think going to the gym everyday is the answer as you will more than likely end up over training yourself which will only make things worse.

Best workouts:

It is not necessary to spend hours and hours in the gym working out with weights. Unless you are trying to be a professional bodybuilder and even then you would be wise to keep your workouts very brief but intense. If you are a beginner then consider taking a few personal training sessions to familiarize yourself with the various workouts however there are only a handful you really need to learn in order to get started.

If time is really an issue then even if you can do just two exercises then you can still get a pretty decent workout. These two exercises are the bench press and the squat or leg press. Here are some pictures below to demonstrate what these exercises are:

Each of these workouts target the major muscles of the upper and lower body respectively. Weight training routines can vary greatly so the key is to try various different types and stick with the ones that work well for you. You can start with doing 2 warm up sets of five to ten repetitions and then do a heavy set where you lift as much as you can for 3 to 5 repetitions. The idea is to challenge your muscles with enough weight to stimulate growth.
